Schools in Brimbank can now apply for grants of up to $50 000 to install water and energy efficient appliances, including solar panels, through the Federal Government’s $480 million National Solar Schools Program, Member for Gorton Brendan O’Connor said today.
Mr O’Connor said the commencement of the program delivers on the Rudd Government’s election commitment to help every Australian school become a solar school.
“This is a great opportunity for our local schools to contribute to the global fight against climate change,” Mr O’ Connor said.
“The National Solar Schools Program will allow them to invest in a range of products – from solar panels and rain water tanks to insulation and window awnings – that will reduce their energy and water usage, as well as save them money.
“Our local schools will be able to set a practical example for their students and for our wider community by providing real-life experience of the simple things we can all do to protect our environment and help tackle climate change.
“I would really encourage all of our local schools to visit the Federal Environment Department’s website to learn more about the program so that they can take advantage of the enormous opportunities it presents,” he said.
