The Migrant Resource Centre North West Region is being funded to deliver 3 projects as part of the Federal Government’s Settlement Grants Program. The program provides annual funding to help refugees and migrants become self-reliant and settle in Australia.

The projects offer comprehensive programs to assist African, Burmese, Afghani and Iraqi refugees and migrants acquire skills to manage community activities, advocate on behalf of their community and interact effectively with community members, service providers and stakeholders.”

"Part of the funding this year has been set aside to assist young refugees and migrants. It is particularly important that we support youth in the difficult transition to a new community and culture.”

“One of the funded projects will concentrate on providing support to refugee women and youth through education, employment and leadership programs,” said Mr O’Connor.

Funding through the Settlement Grants Program is aimed to assist refugees, family sponsored migrants and the dependants of those on skilled migration visas with low levels of English.

Mr O’Connor said the projects will assist refugees and migrant families strengthen their connection to the wider Australian community and encourage participation, engagement and inclusion.
