The Federal Member for Gorton, Brendan O’Connor, today welcomed the appointment of the interim Local Employment Coordinator to North-Western Melbourne.
The Local Employment Coordinators have a key role to play in the Australian Government’s $77 billion Nation Building Recovery Plan to support jobs today by investing in nation-building infrastructure for tomorrow.
“I am pleased to introduce Mr Michael Reardon who is already working to play a critical role in helping to drive local responses to keeping Australians working,” Minister O’Connor said.
“As part of the Australian Government’s Nation Building Recovery Plan, $665.771 million is being invested in North-Western Melbourne to support jobs and training opportunities.”
“Mr Reardon will work with local business and other key stakeholders, such as local councils and unions, to develop strategies for keeping people in work while recruitment for the permanent Local Employment Coordinator is underway.
“He will identify ways to ensure that local people are able to access the job opportunities created by the Government’s economic stimulus measures.
“He will also work with key Government and community agencies to develop rapid responses to best deal with emerging employment issues in North-Western Melbourne and promote job opportunities.
