13 Local Schools Win A Total Of $2 Million Under National School Pride Round Two Print E-mail
Written by Brendan O'Connor

Thirteen schools in Gorton will receive a total of $2 million for minor infrastructure and refurbishment projects under Round Two of the National School Pride program.

Federal Member for Gorton Brendan O’Connor said the National School Pride program is one part of the Rudd Government’s $14.7 billion Building the Education Revolution and will help local schools fund infrastructure projects, such as upgrading sports facilities and constructing new learning spaces.

“It’s great to be part of a Government that is investing in our local schools and our local community at this unprecedented level,” Mr O’Connor said.

“I know that this massive injection of funding will be welcomed with open arms by our local school communities.”

Some of the school projects that have been funded in Gorton include:

  • A VET outdoor learning space & learning community upgrades at Brimbank College ($200 000)
  • Upgrade of grounds at Catholic Regional College, Keilor North ($200 000)
  • An environmental learning space at Glengala/Sunshine West Primary ($125 000)
  • Landscaping of grounds at Marian College, Sunshine West ($200 000)

Mr O’Connor said the $1.3 billion National School Pride program is delivering much needed funding for school infrastructure projects, as well as supporting local jobs.

“Together with Round One, the National School Pride program will deliver more than $7.6 million to 47 primary and secondary schools in Gorton, which will not only allow schools to upgrade their facilities, but will also help stimulate jobs in our local community,” he said.

Mr O’Connor said that work on the funded National School Pride projects will commence as soon as possible.

“The next few months will be exciting for our local community, as this very large investment in our schools flows through to local businesses and tradespeople in the construction industry.”

Round Two is the final round of the NSP program and sees funding delivered to all eligible schools across the country.

The Rudd Government’s Building the Education Revolution continues with two elements still open for applications:

  • Primary Schools for the 21st Century Rounds Two and Three
  • Science and Language Centres for the 21st Century
