Nineteen Local Organisations Receive Funding Under Volunteer Grants Program

Federal Member for Gorton Brendan O’Connor has congratulated 19 local community organisations that have received grants totalling $65 102 under the Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants Program 2008. 

“It’s great to see that so many of our local organisations have been successful in their applications for funding under this program,” Mr O’Connor said. 

“Every day thousands of local people go out of their way to volunteer their time, energy and expertise to help others, support schools and sporting organisations, and deliver a range of important community services.

Rudd & Brumby Kickstart Work on Western Ring Road Upgrade

Six months ahead of schedule, the Prime Minister and the Premier of Victoria turned the first sod on the $2.25 billion upgrade of Melbourne’s Western Ring Road.

The Western Ring Road upgrade will support up to 6,500 jobs during construction and 5,500 flow-on jobs. 

By acting early and decisively to bring construction forward on projects that are ready to go, we are creating jobs and boosting the national economy during the global financial crisis.

Brimbank Infrastructure Projects Get a Boost Under Rudd's $300 Million Fund

Brimbank City Council will be offered $1,644,00 this financial year as part of the Rudd Labor Government's $300 million community infrastructure stimulus package to help local communities respons to the global financial crisis.

Brimbank City Council will also be eligible to apply on a competitive basis for larger projects seeking a minimum Commonwealth contribution of $2 million or more.

Federal Member for Gorton Brendan O’Connor has welcomed today’s announcement, saying it will “encourage local economic development in Brimbank at a very uncertain time”.
