STREET SOCCER SUPPORTING HOMELESS AND MARGINALISED
brendan_soccer_037Suits and Bills were swapped for sneakers and balls as Brendan O’Connor and other Federal politicians played with and against homeless and disadvantaged Street Soccer players in front of Parliament House today.

Street Soccer players from Canberra and members of the Senate and House of Representatives played a six-game soccer tournament to highlight the achievements of, and pay special tribute to, the men and women involved in the Big Issue’s Community Street Soccer Program.

FEDERAL MEMBER RECOGNISES 16 OUTSTANDING LOCAL YOUNG LEADERS

Federal Member for Gorton Brendan O’Connor today hosted a morning tea to celebrate the achievements of the winners of the inaugural Gorton Young Leaders Awards (GYLAs) for 2009.
 

Mr O’Connor congratulated 16 young leaders in his electorate office in Keilor, at a morning tea which brought together former Year 12 students from across seven local schools located in the electorate of Gorton.

Cyber-safety pilot program for two schools in Gorton

 

Member for Gorton Brendan O’Connor today congratulated two local schools that have been selected to participate in the new cyber-safety and student wellbeing pilot program.

Mackellar Primary School in Delahey and Overnewton Anglican Community College in Taylors Lakes were selected to be a part of the $3 million initiative, developed by child safety charity the Alannah and Madeline Foundation and funded by the Federal Government.
